Sunday is my last day on staff at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. It is kind of strange to think that we’ll be wrapping up our time in OKC very soon. And that’s because this has been home, this has been comfortable. I love SHBC & the people I get to interact with in our church body. They encourage, build up, and remind me of things that point me towards the beauty of the gospel. They make me laugh, share great stories, make for good company at a meal…they are great! I am deeply grateful for my time at SHBC.

But I am also very excited about the future. My family and I will be moving to Yakima, WA as I serve as the Associate Pastor of Discipleship at Memorial Bible Church. This is our next adventure! It will be fun meeting new people, starting new relationships, pressing others and being pressed to think through the implications of the gospel. I really am excited to learn what life looks like in the Pacific Northwest! Sure I have visited there several times a year since 2007 (when I first met Heather Hickman, now Heather Cobb), but there is a big difference between a visit for the holidays and living in the town…and that’s exciting.

So with all that happening, there are 2 major obstacles standing in my way. First is packing. It is such a daunting task to pack all your stuff and move halfway across the country. As I type this, there are a mountain of moving boxes just waiting to be packed…I don’t look forward to this process. This is where God is so kind to bless me with Heather as my wife. She is thorough and diligent, and I have great confidence that she’ll make sure we get it all done.

My other obstacle is this: I need a 27 hour playlist. That’s right, 27 hours. Think about that…if a song averages 4 minutes, that means I need 15 songs per hour, which means I would need a playlist of approximately 405 songs if I didn’t repeat any songs. That is a lot of music! And it needs to be great music, not average stuff. You need great songs while driving from Fort Collins, CO to Boise, ID. So I’m working on getting these songs together.

Yesterday I bought a premium subscription on Spotify that cost 99 cents for 3 months. It seemed like a good time to try Spotify, as the cheap subscription coincides with the journey to the Northwest. So now I have access to all sorts of songs from all types of artist. So here are some of my picks thus far:

Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”, Dawes’ “All Your Favorite Bands”, Mary Poppins’ “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, Ray Charles’ “Here We Go Again”, Ryan Adams’ “New York, New York”, John Moreland’s “Cherokee”, Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly”, Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller”, Dave Rawlings Machine’s “The Trip”, The Band’s “The Weight”, Lion King’s “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” & Kacey Musgraves’ “Biscuits”.

So I have a few open spots on my playlist. I would love for you to share some of your favorite road songs as I work on the rest of my 405 songs for travel fun. Let the above songs serve as a guide for any recommendations you may provide.

And to finish this post, I would love for you to be praying for Heather, Ben & myself. Pray that we wrap up our time at SHBC in a great way. Pray that we make wise decisions as we move from OK to WA. Pray that our start at MBC would be honoring to God. Thanks for reading and get me some songs ASAP!
